Fair housing
Last updated October 8, 2026
The Firm Real Estate Team is committed to equal housing opportunity.
We follow the federal Fair Housing Act, the North Carolina State Fair Housing Act, the South Carolina Fair Housing Law, and local fair housing ordinances. We do not discriminate in the sale, rental, or financing of housing, or in the services we provide, based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), disability, familial status, national origin, or any other class protected by federal, state, or local law.
How we write about places
Every page on The Charlotte Real describes places and properties, never people. That shapes what we publish and what we leave out.
- We do not call any area safe, unsafe, or up-and-coming. If crime data matters to you, we link to the official Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and county sources so you can read the numbers yourself.
- We do not grade or rank schools. Each area page links to the official North Carolina or South Carolina school report card site.
- We do not say who an area is for, or who lives there. We describe homes, streets, parks, commutes, and costs, and we encourage you to visit and decide for yourself.
- Reader tips and event submissions are reviewed by an editor against these same rules before anything is published.
Our content is checked against a list of restricted terms before every publish. If you see something on this site that falls short of these standards, please tell us and we will fix it.
If you believe you have experienced housing discrimination
- U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):hud.gov/fairhousing, or call 1-800-669-9777.
- North Carolina Human Relations Commission:doa.nc.gov.
- South Carolina Human Affairs Commission: schac.sc.gov.
