NoDa's Halloween Weekend: A Costume 5K, Free Ghost Tours, a Candy Crawl, and NoDa Brewing's 15th Birthday
NoDaWeen fills Saturday and Sunday with a Freaky 5K, free Ghosts and Legends walking tours, and a trick or treat crawl, while NoDa Brewing celebrates 15 years. Times, places, and what is free.

NoDa does Halloween its own way, and this weekend packs most of it into two days. The NoDa Neighborhood and Business Association's NoDaWeen lineup brings a costume 5K, free ghost tours, and a trick or treat crawl for kids, while NoDa Brewing turns 15 with an all day party. Here is what we confirmed with each organizer, in order.
Saturday, Oct. 24
NoDa Brewing's 15th birthday. The brewery at 150 W. 32nd St. throws an anniversary party from 11:30 a.m. to midnight. The event page lists live music all day, a kids zone from noon to 4 p.m., brewery tours at 1, 2, and 3 p.m., and four special releases: NoDaRyeZ'd, Ramble On Red, Sucette d'Suzie, and In Todd We Trust. A silent disco runs from 8 p.m. to midnight with a $5 ticket through Eventbrite. The page does not list an admission price for the rest of the day.
NoDaWeen Freaky 5K Costume Run. The race starts at 5 p.m. at Great Wagon Road Distilling Company, 610 Anderson St., rain or shine. Packet pickup and day of registration run from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday (there is also a Friday pickup from 4 to 6 p.m.). Costume prizes and fastest runner awards start at 5:45 p.m., followed by an after party at 6. Net proceeds go to NoDa Neighborhood and Business Association community projects. The race page does not list the fee, so check the registration link for the current price.
Ghosts and Legends Walking Tours. The neighborhood's Back in the Day Committee leads hour long walks through the old mill village with ghost stories and local history. Tours leave every hour starting at 6:30 p.m., with the last one around 10:15 p.m. Find the table at Stu's Barrel House, next to Jackbeagle's, at 3215 N. Davidson St., and look for volunteers in blue and white striped shirts. It is free, with donations welcome, and tickets are handed out that night, so the organizers suggest arriving early. It is one night only.
Bluegrass at the Neighborhood Theatre. AJ Lee and Blue Summit play at 8 p.m. (doors at 7) with The Cody Sisters opening. The show is 18 and up, and younger fans can come with a parent. (Neighborhood Theatre)
Sunday, Oct. 25
NoDa Downtown Candy Crawl. Kids trick or treat at participating NoDa businesses from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with pop up vendors on the Johnston YMCA front lawn at 3025 N. Davidson St. The Johnston YMCA holds its own fall festival the same evening starting at 4 p.m. The event page refers to a map of participating businesses but does not list a cost.
Jai'Len Josey at the Neighborhood Theatre. The singer brings The Serial Romantic Tour to NoDa at 7 p.m. (doors at 6). It is 18 and up, with under 18 allowed with a parent. (Neighborhood Theatre)
Starting Friday, Oct. 23
If you want to start early, Tiana Major9 plays the Neighborhood Theatre on Friday at 8 p.m. (doors at 7), also 18 and up with a parent option. (Neighborhood Theatre)
Coming up Oct. 31
NoDaWeen wraps up with a house decorating contest on Halloween. Homes are judged on spookiness and decorations, and the winner gets a $200 cash prize and a year of bragging rights. Sign up is due by Friday, Oct. 23, through the form on the NoDaWeen page.
Getting there
NoDa's businesses cluster along North Davidson and 36th streets, and street parking fills fast on a busy Saturday night. The LYNX Blue Line stops at 36th Street, a short walk from the arts district.
