Halloween in Tega Cay and Fort Mill: Pumpkin Palooza, a Revolutionary Ghost Walk, a Trunk or Treat, and Boil, Brew and 'Que

Tega Cay's Spooktacular Week lights up carved pumpkins at Living Memorial Gardens from Oct. 27, adds a free living history ghost walk on Oct. 30, and ends with a trunk or treat on Halloween. Next door, the Anne Springs Close Greenway throws a fall festival on Oct. 24.

The South Carolina side of the lake has a full Halloween stretch this year, and most of it is free. Here is what the City of Tega Cay and the Anne Springs Close Greenway have confirmed, in date order.

Saturday, Oct. 24: Boil, Brew and 'Que at the Greenway

The Anne Springs Close Greenway's Colonel's Club hosts its fall festival from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Greenway Gateway, 2570 Lake Haigler Drive in Fort Mill. Expect local barbecue, craft beer, and activities for all ages. All proceeds support the Greenway's Bridge Program, which helps make its community programs available to more people. The event page does not list ticket prices, so check the Greenway's event page or call 803-547-4575 before you go.

The night before, Friday, Oct. 23, John G. Franklin plays Live Music at the Greenway Canteen from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lake Haigler entrance. It is free for Greenway members; everyone else pays daily admission. Bring chairs. Leashed dogs are welcome, but outside alcohol, glass, and tents are not.

Oct. 25 and 26: Get your pumpkin in

Tega Cay's Pumpkin Palooza is back for a third year. Anyone can enter: individuals, families, clubs, church groups, and other organizations.

  • Register by Sunday, Oct. 25 through the city's online form, linked on the Spooktacular Week page. Drop-off instructions come by email after you sign up.
  • Drop off your carved pumpkin by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26 at the city sign by Living Memorial Gardens, at Tega Cay Drive and Shoreline Parkway.
  • Prizes and a trophy go to Most Creative, Most Complicated, and Best Traditional.

Oct. 27 through Halloween: See the pumpkins lit

From Tuesday, Oct. 27 through Halloween night, the entries are lit with string lights each evening at Living Memorial Gardens. It is an easy after dinner stop, and it costs nothing to look.

Friday, Oct. 30: Ghosts of the Revolution

This is the one to circle. The city calls it an immersive Hallows' Eve experience: ghost stories, interactive theater, and living history tied to the nation's 250th anniversary, partly funded by the state's SC250 program.

  • When: 7 to 9:30 p.m. Arrive any time in that window.
  • Where: Catawba Park, 2351 New Grey Rock Road, at the back of the park by the soccer fields.
  • Cost: Free. No tickets needed.

Details: City of Tega Cay calendar.

Saturday, Oct. 31: Boos and Ghouls Trunk or Treat

Halloween afternoon wraps up the week with trick or treating from decorated trunks, a DJ, and a costume contest for all ages. It runs from 4 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Philip T. Glennon Community Center, 15083 Molokai Drive. The city has not listed a cost for families. (City of Tega Cay calendar)

Businesses that want to sponsor or set up a trunk can sign up through the form on the Spooktacular page.

Also around Fort Mill

Downtown Fort Mill's Scarecrow Crawl stays up through Oct. 31, so a stroll through downtown Fort Mill pairs well with the pumpkins in Tega Cay. Find details on the Town of Fort Mill's Scarecrow Crawl page.

What is still unclear

Tega Cay's own pages describe the week three slightly different ways (Oct. 25 to Nov. 1, Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, and individual events from Oct. 26 to 31). The individual event dates above are the ones listed on each event's page. A Hocus Pocus movie night has been mentioned elsewhere, but we could not find a date or time on the city's site, so it is not included here.

Plans change with weather. Check the city's Spooktacular Week page on the day, and see our events calendar for more around the region.
